Women Issue Has Always Been at Center of Political, Social and Economic Agenda of Morocco (Ambassador)
Johannesburg – Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the issue of women has always been at the center of the political, social and economic agenda of a Moroccan nation proud of its female component and faithful to its African identity, said Morocco’s Ambassador to South Africa, Youssef Amrani.
“Internally and internationally, the commitment of the Kingdom has always been one that promotes the vital role of women by protecting their legitimate rights and by fully integrating their action in development efforts,” said Amrani in a statement received Monday by MAP.
“Women’s voices do not yet have the resonance that is rightfully theirs, and unfortunately it is often oppression, sexism and violence by the opposite sex that is the root cause,” said the Moroccan diplomat.
He added that this International Women’s Day certainly reminds us that a long road has been travelled, but that an equally long road still lies ahead, noting that if satisfaction is not the order of the day, it is the awareness of a common responsibility that is required.
“How can we tolerate that women are silenced where their words have always been those of reason. How can we tolerate that women are silenced where their freedoms have always been those that have advanced our societies. How can we tolerate that women are violated where their actions have always been those of protection,” Amrani wondered.
Women are involved in all the great African struggles and none will be won without them, the diplomat said, saying that in politics, economics, research, religion, sports and science, Africa needs the commitment of its women who honor our nations with their intelligence, skills and dedication.
