Restoring Relations Between Morocco and Israel, Essential Basis for Peace in Region (Israeli Diplomat)
Mexico City – The re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel constitutes an essential basis for peace in the region, given the political weight of the Kingdom at the regional level, the cultural and historical ties uniting the two countries, and the presence of a large Jewish community of Moroccan origin which “remained emotionally attached to its country of origin,” said Israeli ambassador to Mexico, Zvi Tal.
Tal, who had talks with the Moroccan Ambassador to Mexico City Abdelfattah Lebbar, as part of a courtesy visit on the occasion of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom and Israel, also expressed his satisfaction with the resumption of these relations which he described as important.
During the meeting, which took place at the residence of the Moroccan ambassador in Mexico City, the two diplomats discussed several topics of common interest, according to a statement from the Moroccan diplomatic representation.
On this occasion, Tal expressed his wish to see this rapprochement strengthen cooperation between the two countries for the interest of the two peoples, while stressing the importance of the deep and millennial relationship between Morocco and the Jewish people.
The resumption of relations between the two countries is a dream that came true for many Israelis of Moroccan origin, he said.
For his part, Lebbar welcomed the decision to resume diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel, which enshrines the coexistence and convergence of civilizations, cultures and religions between Jews and Muslims, and which represents a form of unique civilization in all the region, highlighting the cohesion and special ties between Jews and Muslims in Morocco.
