Govt. Council Approves Bill on Electoral Process

Rabat – The Government Council, convened on Thursday under the chairmanship of Head of Government Saad Dine El Otmani, adopted Bill No.10.21 amending and supplementing Law No. 57.11 on General Electoral Rolls, referendum operations and the use of public audiovisual means during electoral campaigns and referendums.

Submitted by the Interior Minister, the bill sets the deadlines for submitting registration applications in general electoral rolls and transfer of registration applications. It also sets the deadline for closure of general electoral rolls, said Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Government Spokesman, Saaid Amzazi, in a statement read at a press briefing following the weekly Cabinet meeting, held through video-conference.

The bill also includes provisions encouraging citizens who obtained their national electronic ID for the first time, especially young people, to register in the general electoral rolls, he added.

The bill includes new provisions allowing the use of the support fund to promote women’s representation for the benefit of those carrying out awareness-raising and training projects in areas related to regional elections and professional chambers polls.
