At UNGA, Iraq Welcomes Al-Quds Call Launched By HM the King and Pope Francis
United Nations – Iraq has welcomed, at the United Nations, the Al-Quds Call by HM King Mohammed VI and His Holiness Pope Francis, on March 30, 2019 in Rabat, to preserve and promote the specific multi-religious nature, the spiritual dimension and the particular identity of the Holy City of Al-Quds Asharif.
“Iraq welcomes the initiative of the Al-Quds Call launched by King Mohammed VI and His Holiness Pope Francis to highlight the Al-Quds Asharif as a place of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect for human heritage,” Iraq’s representative told the UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee at its meeting on Friday.
“Al-Quds unites and does not divide”, insisted the Iraqi diplomat, while stressing the need to work together so that the Holy City remains a symbol of peace.
In this regard, he reiterated Iraq’s rejection of all the violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities in the holy sites of Islam and Christianity in Al-Quds Asharif, in particular the attempts to alter the historical and legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and divide it temporally and spatially.
